This week, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) officials announced an update to the speed limit on US 377 north of US 82 in Whitesboro. Effective Dec. 30, the speed limit between Bones Chapel and Tamplen Roads was reduced to 65 mph.
New signs will be in place and message boards will be on site notifying the public of the speed limit change. During this period, TxDOT urges drivers to pay attention to signs and follow the posted speed limit.
Earlier this spring, a series of car accidents along this stretch of highway culminated in the death of a local young mother. This caused several citizens to seek change that would increase safety in this area.
Whitesboro resident Jamie Wells met with TxDOT officials on Aug. 22 to express her concerns. In that meeting, the organization agreed to add a turn lane to the area and slowly decrease the speed limit there.
Road construction was completed in November.
